just purchased and used this and I am well satisfied with it. Its nice and quiet, good size, seals well. I like how it has bag storage and a built in cutter. I also like how it has a feature to vacuum and seal delicate items with manual control. I tried the delicate feature and it crushed the buns. The manual did fine. It has a place for a hose to do jars with but I dont have the accessory. So far so good!

This is the best vaccum sealer I've ever had. Works perfectly. Intuitive, easy, and even has some different settings depending on what you're vaccum sealing that can be useful. I had an anova precision vaccum sealer before this one, and despite being about the same price, this one is SO MUCH BETTER. The anova was finicky and hard to figure out. It was very hard to line up the plastic sometimes. This Nesco has none of those issues. Certified: So easy even a single male can use it.

We purchased this to replace an old Black & Decker that has to be 20 years old. Compared to that basic sealer this machine has many nice additional features. We like the internal storage for one roll of bag material, the ease of closing the lid on the bag and locking in place for sealing. About the only thing that I'd say negative about the sealer is the very stiff AC cord which makes winding the cord up on the hooks a PITA.

I will also note that there's a common problem with most sealers that I find needs addressing, if possible, by a smart engineer. That is the fact that the bag is inserted a couple of inches above the counter surface that the sealer sits upon. What's the problem with that you ask? Well, for many products that is to be sealed that means either the bag gets wrinkled or the bag tends to pull out of position due to the weight of the stuff being sealed. Not a problem if you waste 3, 4 or more inches of extra bag each time. Then the product is flat on the counter surface and the extra bag get wasted. Just to prevent wrinkles where the seal happens. Or have more than one person do the sealing. A second person needed close and latch the lid while the first person holds the product up and makes sure there's no wrinkles at the seal. Want to seal some hot dogs from the local deli or pour some nuts etc. into a bag to save for later and you either keep wasting bag material or need one hand to hold the bag in the proper position, a second hand to get the wrinkles out of the bag so you can close the lid and use a third hand to latch the lid. Or do as we do and place an flat object under the product in a shorter bag raised up to the level of the sealing surface and save bag material. This is true for most sealers and not a dig on this one. Keep a large book handy to place in front of the sealer so the bag stays in place and you only need two hands to work the sealer. You can save some plastic bag material each time you use the sealer if you do. Like I said, this is true for most of the sealers we looked at before purchasing this one. This was also true for our old B&D.

I bought this one to replace a Foodsaver that had started acting up. Overall, it's a decent, not great, food sealer. Controls are easy to use. I like how the handle locks down. The heating strip for the sealer is obvious as it is covered in copper colored tape. Bag placement is simple. There are tabs located above the drip tray. The bag cutter isn't as sharp as it should be. The drip tray is not removable. I found I have to cut my bags longer than I normally do for the items I store so that things line up correctly. The space for bag rolls is pretty small.

Any new product takes time to carefully read the instructions and apply those instructions when trying for the very first time. As far as product longevity, each kitchen machine needs to be operated within the scope of its manufacture.
I think this will be a very good addition to my kitchen for several reasons. Food prices are at an all-time high and keeping them fresh in the freezer, bulk spices in the pantry, and even some fresh vegetables in the refrigerator, having a vacuum sealer is huge.

My friend who is a chef in his own rite, grows a huge garden every year including spices, and does a lot of canning told me this was essential. I don't know how many times freezer burn as occurred over the years, but zip-lock bags are totally wrong.

Secondly, research is always key, not just going to one review source but several. Everyone has their price range, but I try to buy the middle. If it's too expensive, a waste of money; or not enough money, the risk of the appliance failing is that much greater; or not enough features to do a myriad of chores.

Finally, I think all vacuum sealers can work, but getting the right one for your kitchen and use, at a price that's affordable to you, and what you're going to use it for, only you can decide. But for a median price and great features, I think this Nesco VS-12 will do just fine.

Now that I've used this Nesco Sealer, I am prepared to render my final review.
Absolutely a great vacuum sealer. Packed with all the features an average cook needs to keep food freezer safe and lasting long periods, this one product needs to be in every kitchen, great and small.

It's simple economics. Food today is more expensive and, it's becoming scarce, with all the viruses that attack livestock and our food supply; and preserving food that is on sale, this is an essential kitchen tool.
For all families, from 1 person to many, maximizing the food budget requires common sense and the right kitchen tool to make that happen every month.

As a senior retired person, I cannot afford to waste anything, least of all food. Even young families, middle-aged people, and any person who still works and buys food needs to be thinking about a good vacuum sealer.
Unless you are rich and famous who have all your meals prepared and doesn't care, this review is not for you. I'M speaking to those who WORK, or worked for a living and know the value of what they buy.

Maybe you have money to burn, I do not, therefore my recommendation is: Nesco is a great vacuum sealer for the price. Do not let this bargain slip by. Trust me, time well spent in the kitchen reaps huge dividends in the grocery budget!

And I really mean, Happy Sealing.

With the price of groceries these days it’s really expensive feeding a family of 5. After realizing how much more costly it is to buy meat that’s been broken down and packaged we started to buy whole chickens or bone in skin on breasts as well as whole pork loins.

Basically on Saturday/Sunday I breakdown whatever large cuts or chicken I found at a decent price, come up with some basic marinades and special dinners and then vacuum seal them and freeze for use. This means at any given time we have lots of options for what to have for dinner without really having to make a meal plan.

The nesco vacuum sealer is fantastic. There is a learning curve on bag placement, vacuum sealing with marinades and so on but after the first couple uses I got the hang of it. Its pretty quiet and does a great job, I only ever use the double seal function and typically only use it on auto vac/seal.

The drip tray is not removable which makes it a little harder to clean but it’s honestly not a big deal at all for me. Once you get a hang of how much liquid you can put in the bag and what length to cut the bag you’ll find you don’t get any liquid suctioned into the tray (also helps to fold the open end of the bag over itself a minimum of 3” so you have a clean section where it will go into the sealer.

I wish it came with the vacuum container hose but I’ve seen the hoses come with sets of containers.
