The Redding Model No. 2 Powder & Bullet Scale has been designed and manufactured with the utmost attention to accuracy and sensitivity standards.

The Model 2 scale includes a magnetically dampened beam swing for extra fast readings. Hardened and ground knife edges ride in precision milled stainless steel bearing seats that will not crack, chip or lose their alignment.

Its pour spout pan and flat pan platform provide the convenience of an electronic scale with the accuracy and sensitivity of a laboratory beam scale.

All Redding scales are individually hand calibrated, tested and adjusted to U.S. Bureau of Standards Approved Master Weights, and guaranteed accurate to less than 1/10 grain.

Like many budget-minded reloaders, I picked the cheapest scale I could find with a "name" brand. So I picked the least expensive Lee scale. I found it to be very difficult to operate because of a "vernier" scale to read tenths of grains, and the vernier was not made for my fat fidgety fingers to operate. It was much to sensitive and difficult to zero in on the tenths. In frustration, I read a few Midway USA reviews and chose this model for the slide weight for tenths instead of the vernier used on the Lee model. Home at last! I'm satisfied with this machine. I can easily operate it, and it's very accurate. -Wish I bought it first. : ) Brian.

Good for what it does. Wish it was a little heavier so it didn’t move when bumped. Would like the level screw integrated differently than just a screw pivot on one side of the bottom. Even getting to the screw is a hassle without bumping the pan. Wish the pan was better made and that the pan plate was curved edges to keep the pan from moving off center. Other that those items I like it

The design of the base is unstable-- you are basically stabilizing it on a tripod. Poor design with a cheap bolt at the front to balance, that you can't fit your hand into without hitting the beam. Also they used stickers not etching for the numbers. Why is it so difficult to find solid, well made scales anymore? It appears beam tech peaked in the 1950's -- almost all the scales today are junk by comparison. I guess I'll invest in a lab digital scale from A&D.

This scale is accurate and well made as most Redding products - excellent. However, I don't like the way the pan sits on the flat holder. It is clumsy to use and easily knocked off. It doesn't settle as fast as an RCBS scale. Everything about it seems slower than other scales I've used.
The most annoying thing is the leveling screw. It is too small and difficult to adjust with normal to large hands.
I have checked it with an older RCBS that I know is accurate as well as a good electronic scale and it weighs the same as either of those scales.
I do like the 1/10 grain increments on the side of the pointer. That is very handy to have.
Bottom line, I would go with the RCBS in the same price category.

I've been slowly upgrading most of my reloading supplies to Redding and so when I had an opportunity to repurpose my RCBS 5-0-5 I jumped at buying the Redding because I liked that it was a cast base and has the graduated marks so you can easily tell what your weight difference is from what you've dialed in.

Very disappointed with this compared to the RCBS:

1. RCBS has a very solid cradle for holding the powder pan. Redding has a very flimsy flat sheet of metal to hold it.

2. The powder pan with RCBS is much heavier in construction and you can load most metallic cartridges by carefully pouring into them. Redding has a much flimsier powder pan that requires a lip to maintain structural integrity -- this lip more or less obstructs pouring into a 7mm cartridge for example.

3. The damping seems less effective than RCBS. It does work but whereas I always was impressed how fast the RCBS stabilizes, the Redding takes longer than you think.

4. RCBS has a very large adjusting foot that provides stability for the scale. Redding just as a bolt protruding to your bench surface. I actually wondered if I was missing parts.

It's accurate and works as advertised but not at all as good as RCBS and definitely not worth the Redding premium.
